*The order is random, it’s not a ranking!
Surprised to see this name? While keeping his grumpy face and scary appearance, this breed is very affectionate. They were originally bred to be guard dogs. Probably this is where they get their drive to form strong bonds. They are incredibly friendly towards kids and children. Furthermore, you must note that this breed required proper exercise. They’re an energetic breed, and need to lose their energy adequately.
2.) The Mastiff
This is a big dog, sometimes called as the “English Mastiff”. While not very welcoming to strangers, but they’re family oriented and kid friendly. It’s funny to mention, that at times they may bump your kid (unintentionally) and make them fall, considering their massive size. Also they drool a lot, so keep your tissues nearby!
3.) Old English Sheepdog
Another large dog, initially developed to herd Sheep. They have peculiar fur coat, which is hard to overlook. Most noteworthy, this breed is a very happy-go-lucky kind… and they are usually friendly towards everyone – especially kids! Because of which, you might see them a lot on children’s TV shows 🙂 . Finally, keep in mind you’ll find a lot of fur all around the place!
4.) Labrador Retriever
The America’s most popular breed, often considered as the ideal family dog. In the ancient times, they were used by fishermen to retrieve fish back – and hence the name “Retriever”. Very friendly in nature, to everyone and definitely with kids too (they don’t make good watchdogs). They come in many different colors, the most popular being black and shades of brown. Muscular, athletic and loves to run 🙂 , they make great running companions too. Keep in mind they are obsessed with food, and have a tendency to get fat.
With it’s dashing looks, this breed is probably one of the most unique looking dogs around. The Dalmatian is highly energetic, active and also very intelligent. A very family oriented dog, and playful with children. Please keep in mind, this breed does not tolerate ill-treatment and may act offensive.
6.) Dogue de Bordeaux
If you’re unfamiliar with this breed, guess who co-starred with Tom Hanks in the movie Turner the Hooch (1989). While a very affectionate, and relaxed breed…sometimes so relaxed that they seem like stubborn. They’re awesome with kids. Also keep in mind, good training rather a requirement for them.
7.) Golden Retriever
One of my personal favorite breeds. They’re amazingly beautiful, energetic, playful, loving and very family oriented. Much like the other Retrievers, they are also one of the most popular breeds in the U.S. They’re easily trained, and love to learn new tricks. Furthermore, they adjust quite well within a family, with kids and claim their position as a family member without asking 🙂
A large dog breed, with a super strong body – they hail from Newfoundland as their name says. As a result, they do need daily exercise to meet their physical needs. While being a giant dog, he is soft at heart, and his mere face will tell you about his kind soul. They’re naturally playful with kids.
Available in all shapes, sizes and colors… the mutt is one of the best family dogs around. Though not too much can be said about them, but they surprisingly always have a warm temperament. And of course, they make great companions for kids.
10.) American Staffordshire Terrier
Probably THE most kid friendly dog ever. Don’t be deceived by his tough looks, his tough jawline and appearance.. but trust me, he rather enjoys playing and dogging more than anything. Furthermore it can be said, this dog lives everyday as if it was his last, and enjoys every moment. They have deep love for kids, and consequently nicknamed as nanny-dogs 🙂 Beautiful creature…
